This one- or two-day splinting workshop features more than 10 orthoses including static, dynamic, and static progressive designs, which will be demonstrated and then participants will have the opportunity to fabricate. The workshop format includes a power point presentation on the principles of mobilization splinting followed by demonstration and hands on splint lab time.  Attendees will earn 8 CEUs per day and all splint materials will be provided.  The specific designs include the incorporation of a variety of outriggers including either wires, coils and/or Orfitubes, as well as various Orfit splinting materials.  This splinting workshop is appropriate for OT’s, COTA’s, PT’s, PTA’s and CHT’s working with an upper extremity patient caseload and looking to enhance their splinting skills.

  • Analyze mechanical properties required to fabricate low temperature thermoplastic immobilization and mobilization splints for the upper extremity.
  • Compare and contrast splinting materials, outrigger/ and or coil designs of immobilization and mobilization splints.
  • Identify important anatomical structures and landmarks of the upper extremity.
